Cajun™
P550 Gigabit Switch
System
Overview
Avaya's initial
Gigabit Ethernet product – the Cajun P550 Gigabit Switch
– is a high-capacity, multilayer-capable Ethernet
switching system designed for Gigabit-Scaled Campus
Networking™.
The Cajun P550 Gigabit Switch has two-to-three times the
capacity of any other gigabit switch. It features an
unmatched total backplane capacity of 45.76 gigabits per
second (Gbps), 22.88 Gbps switching throughput capacity,
first-of-its-kind OpenTrunk™ VLAN interoperability,
extensive fault tolerance and Class of Service (CoS)/Quality
of Service (QoS) support – all in a compact (10.5 inches
high), high-density, 7-slot chassis.
With up to six payload slots available for input/output
modules, the Cajun P550 Gigabit Switch supports up to 24
full-duplex Gigabit Ethernet ports, up to 120 10/100 Mbps
Ethernet ports or up to 60 fiber-optic Fast Ethernet
ports. The unit comes standard with a Supervisor Module in
Slot 1 and an optional Supervisor Module can be placed in
Slot 2.
The following media modules are available for the Cajun
P550 Gigabit Switch:
• 2-Port 1000BASE-SX Gigabit Ethernet Module (850nM)
• 2-Port 1000BASE-LX Gigabit Ethernet Module (1300nM)
• 2-Port 1000BASE-SLX Long Distance Gigabit Ethernet
Module (10 Km)
• 4-Port 1000BASE-SX Gigabit Ethernet Module (850nM)
• 4-Port 1000BASE-LX Gigabit Ethernet Module (1300nM)
• 4-Port 1000BASE-SLX Long Distance Gigabit Ethernet
Module (10 Km)
• 10-Port 100BASE-FX Fiber Fast Ethernet Module
• 20-Port 10/100BASE-TX Ethernet Module
• 48-Port 10/100BASE-TX Ethernet Module
With its combination of Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, and
Gigabit Ethernet, the Cajun P550 Switch is able to scale
as network bandwidth requirements grow. This scalability
optimizes network-level capacity in the campus network far
beyond the current generation of Ethernet switches.
Designed with the campus backbone in mind, the P550 Switch
also incorporates a fault-tolerant switching architecture
and features hot-swappable power supplies, fans and
modules.
Avaya's Cajun P550 Switch offers an unrivaled combination
of capacity and scalability in an extensive,
top-to-bottom, fault-tolerant architecture with no single
point of failure and advanced CoS/QoS features. It is
designed specifically to meet or exceed the demanding
requirements of the bandwidth-starved campus backbone and
high-performance workgroup environments.
Year 2000 Compliance
Avaya's Cajun P550 Gigabit Switch has been designed for
Year 2000 (Y2K) compliance. The P550's CPU module
implements an on-board, real-time clock. This real-time
clock can be set, uses four (4) digits, and displays all
four digits of the year. Additionally, the P550's event
logging system uses a compressed time and date field that
is accurate for 64 years, through the year 2062. In
accordance with Avaya's policy, the P550 Switch will be
tested against Bellcore GR-2945 for Year 2000 compliance,
and test results will be available later this summer.
